I haven’t posted anything the entire month of July. This would be because July is the worst month of the year, and I would just be one giant ball of complaining. Be glad I spared you from having to read all of that. Life would be so much better if I could go from June straight into August. At least this July is almost over.

I will try to keep my complaining to a minimum here, so instead, I will mention only happy, good things.

First, check out my website! I know most of you read this on lj or on google reader so…go look! Go look! JenMcCain.net. (And let me know if anything looks weird on your computer.) It’s new and pretty! I bought a package full of digital scrapbooking goodies to put together the header and the background. I probably shouldn’t have discovered those, because now I want to buy all of them. I’d never even heard of such a thing until yesterday. Two Peas in a Bucket is where I got them from. And they were cheap. I’m not at all interested in doing any scrapbooking, but I do want to use all of the cute things for different wordpress layouts. I spent a lot of yesterday and today goofing around with photoshop playing with all the stuff and downloading new fonts.

Yesterday, I watched Stranger than Fiction. If you haven’t watched it. You should. It was cute.

Strawberry cream cheese is the best. I also have also discovered that I really like blackberries.

There are a lot of people around here that have Boston Terriers. Every time I got outside, it seems like I see one. AND I WANT ONE. They are so cute! I miss dogs. I never get to hug a dog.

IN OTHER NEWS: The Tour de France is over at last! Hooray! Hooray! Now we can go back to our regularly scheduled viewings of Northern Exposure, and readings of Harry Potter.

I think this year I will make the TARDIS cake for my birthday. My TARDIS baking was postponed indefinitely two years ago due to hurricanes. Let’s hope I don’t have that problem this year. Although, really, I wouldn’t mind some rain…and clouds. I hate the sun.

Chris is reading HARRY POTTER! And he’s blogging about it. Chris’s bog He’s reading a chapter a day. He hates Harry Potter, but I keep telling him he has to read more than the first two books to form a informed opinion on the series. I hope he changes his mind and decides he loves it. If not, at least he will then know who all the characters are. (If he finishes the series. I’m not sure he will. He’s already discouraged and he’s only read the first chapter of the first book. In exchange I am reading his favorite Star Wars books, but I haven’t started it yet.)

There was a storm here today! And some crazy lightening! There was a huge flash of lightening outside that was so close and loud that it made a car alarm go off, and me scream, and Darwin run. My mom even heard it and she was in Shreveport, but she was also on the phone with me at the time. I do really really really love the rain though. I wish it would rain every day until October.

I have shrunk all of my shorts. So now I have nothing to wear. I have solved this problem by wearing pajamas a lot and occassionally dresses. And today my blue jeans decided to rip across the knee so I now almost have some shorts. Woo!

I. hate. Texas.

It’s a good kind of hate though. It feels like the same hate that I had for the girls I went to school with when I was in 8th grade. It’s an 8th grade hate. Pure and uncomplicated.

HERE ARE THE REASONS WHY:

1) Traffic. I absolutely 100% refuse to drive on the interstate. It is NOT going to happen. I’ve also discovered that I don’t even like riding in the car with someone else driving on the interstate to go places. I’m completely convinced that when we get in the middle of all of this traffic with people throwing on their brakes and switching lanes and going a thousand mph that I’m going to be killed in a firey crash. Going places without the interstate is possible, but it is very time consuming and when I give it any thought at all, I always decide that it just really isn’t worth the effort…which brings me to the number 2 reason:
1) The whole DFW area is too big. It’s just too big and too spread out and there are too many people. I just looked it up. The population of the entire area is 6,447,615. That is just way too many people. I hate people.
2) IT IS UGLY. That is a very short sentence and reason why but it is incredibly important. There’s just no outside here.
3) It is hotter than Shreveport. NO REALLY, it is. HOTTER THAN SHREVEPORT. The forecast consists of endless days with 99-100 degree temperatures. I have moved to a city HOTTER than Shreveport!
4) Apparently, I get much crazier in the head when I don’t have various family members and friends to keep me entertained while I am stuck indoors during my summer prison sentence. So me + living in a hotter than Shreveport temperatures with no one to play Scrabble with and no dogs to hug and various goings on (stupid family drama and whatnot to occupy my thoughts)…means the summer is 10,000,000x worse than most.
5) Since I have been here, I have applied for a lot of jobs, contacted a lot of legal recruiting agencies. A LOT of them. And I have gotten exactly zero responses from any of them. WTF!

I am coping by carrying around an atlas and daydreaming about far away places and rewatching the entire series of Northern Exposure.

Here’s a list of good things:
1) Living with Chris is fun!
2) Our apartment is pretty!
3) The neighborhood where we live is quiet.

I don’t wish I hadn’t moved, because I have learned very important things! Like….I hate it here. I wouldn’t have known that if we hadn’t moved. And now I know that 6.4 million people is way too many people. I require a city smaller than that. And I require one that is cooler since I’m not capable of living in a hot city that isn’t Shreveport. Those are all important things.

In 101 days it will be October and the weather will be cooler and I’ll get to go see the dinosaur footprints in Glenrose, TX. That will be fun. And I’ll go to the butterfly house!

But even winter and cold weather isn’t going to change my mind about Texas. Some times I just know things, and this is one of those things that I just know.

AND THAT IS MY LOVELY SUMMER! How’s yours?

*facepalms*

#1. My dog died. Is there a more depressing way to start off a blog post? I don’t think so. My parents had to take her to the emergency vet in the middle of the night on Saturday to have her put to sleep. She hurt her back the day before and then started having seizures on Saturday night. She was 17, so she was ancient for a dog. But it is still the saddest thing ever and I cried buckets. She was the first dog we ever had! She’s now buried in the backyard with her favorite toy, next to my Aunt’s dog.

#2. I’m enjoying my transcriptioning a lot! It’s mostly workers’ compensation court things from California, but I have gotten a few really weird things to listen to. I like the really weird things the best. Because I’m new at it, I get proofread so I feel like I’m back in school when I get their grades. Instead of A,B,C,D,F they use 5,4,3,2,1.

#3. Erin is coming to visit me this weekend! I’m so excited! She already has a list of places where she wants to go shopping.

#4. I am wearing a very happy yellow dress right now.

#5. 115 days until summer is over.

#6. I really loved the episode of Dr. Who with Van Gogh in it. I loved that guy that played Van Gogh, I can’t think of his name but I’ve seen him in things. It’s my favorite so far with the new doctor. And really the first episode with doctor giant head where I actually felt like he was the doctor and I liked him. It takes me a while to get used to people.

#7. Tried to watch the movie The Road last night. We watched an hour of it, and it was the longest hour ever.

#8. Darwin v. Squirrel

#1. I have an imac! I got it yesterday. It is the prettiest and I’m sitting here wondering how I lived without an apple computer for so long. Right now I am playing with the photobooth thing! So fun. Here are a few things I have done so far:

Me sepia colored! Woo!

Me looking like I’m on Ghost Hunters. lol.

Me on the moon! (and yes, of course I’m going to try to get a picture of Darwin on the moon.)

#2. I have a part-time job doing legal transcription starting within the next week or so. Woo! It’s working from home, so I don’t even have to get out in the hot sun. And it pays what I was making in Shreveport at the lawyer’s office. Woo!! I have quite a bit of studying to do. Legal formatting stuff and legal terms and other grammary things that I need to know.

#3. I do have to go buy a new desk chair though, because this morning I tipped the chair over and fell flat on my face. And I also feel like I’m sitting on the floor in a hole in this thing. I need to be up higher. So Sunday is a early morning trip to Ikea to buy a cheap office chair.

#4. LOST. I liked it a lot and thought the ending was super sad, but I still feel like they tried to make me sad to distract me from the fact that they didn’t explain much of anything at all. I’m glad it’s over though. I don’t have to think about it ever again.

#5. I also can play LOTR-Online again! YAY! WOO! On a big pretty screen! YAY! WOO!

This weekend was fun! I think Chris and I did more shopping and running around to different places this weekend than I typically do in an entire year. But we needed to explore and see new things and wander around a bit. I got to go in an Anthropologie store! Yay! I wanted to buy everything in there. All of it. I wanted every dress and every quilt and every single cute little kitchen dish. Instead I bought a cookie jar on sale that is going to be mailed to my house from another store because the one they had was broken, and a girly drawer pull for my desk. Then we went to gun stores! And bike shops! And we got a lost a little and yelled at the gps a lot.

This morning was a trip to Ikea for a bookshelf. From things I had heard about the store from others (OMG IT IS HUGE, OMG SO MANY PEOPLE, OMG SUCH LONG LINES TO CHECK OUT)…we got there before it opened. I had a list of exactly which bookshelf I wanted and where it was. So when it opened, we skipped the whole store and went straight to the warehousey aisles and grabbed the bookshelf boxes and left. In and out of Ikea in 7 minutes! HOORAY! One lady who saw us said, “They look like they’re on a mission!” lol. Then we went other places! Bookstores and bike shop, and grocery shopping, and to the toy store….and then we came home and put together the bookshelf and now I am tired and need a nap.

Next week I have an appointment with an employment agency on Tuesday and I sent off several resumes for jobs last week. I hope it doesn’t take me long to find a job.

Things I don’t like: Traffic. I don’t even like riding in the car with Chris when he’s the one driving in the billion lanes of traffic with so many cars coming at me from all sides. IT SCARES ME SO MUCH and I make weird little squeaking noises. *facepalms*

I also had an adventure going to the DMV last week. But it was more like a stupid adventure with me being stupid and not getting my driver’s license because it was hot inside and the line was long and claustrophobic.

The moving to Dallas adventure started today with the packing of the moving truck. It took chris and his dad about 5 hours to get everything out of there! They worked so hard!!! It rained a little but the severe weather isn’t suppose to get here until tonight. So now it’s worrying about weather time. And after severe weather (or possibly in the middle of it) we will be off to Dallas tomorrow morning.

I am feeling like a hobbit:
“We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner!”

And tomorrow I’ll be Bilbo pushed out the door on an adventure.

But my mom made me and chris cookies and I’m taking milk with me in a cooler. So I don’t have to worry about missing breakfast or second breakfast or any of the other hobbit meals.

#1. Friday we had severe weather. Tornado watches and warnings, all that good stuff. So I turned on The Weather Channel because I wanted to see where a tornado was going and The Weather Channel was showing a movie. A MOVIE! There was no mention of the weather anywhere on the screen and I wouldn’t have even known it was the weather channel if it hadn’t had it’s logo on the bottom of the screen. WTF? WHY ARE THEY SHOWING MOVIES??? IT IS THE WEATHER CHANNEL! THERE WAS A TORNADO!

#2. Oh EVIL EVIL SUN!! My doctor sent me a letter with the results of my annual blood tests and the only thing that came back bad was that my Vitamin D levels are low. This is because I don’t get enough sunlight!!!!!!! I think this is the funniest thing ever. So now I have to take vitamin D.

#3. Chris and I went to Dallas and back yesterday. IT WAS THE LONGEST DAY. But we got the lease signed which took about an hour and would’ve been really annoying to do on moving day…WHICH IS NEXT SATURDAY!

#4. At the moment I’m not too freaked out about moving day. This is probably because I’m in bed and I have no more packing left to do except for throwing my clothes in my dirty clothes box. And I’m eating brownies and talking to my sister on the phone and I’m in my pajamas looking online for some curtains. Why are curtains so expensive? Why are they all so ugly? What is a good price to spend on curtains? I just don’t know these things! Our living room has five windows. THAT IS A LOT OF WINDOWS.

Baby Caroline:

Robert + baby = funny.

There was much staring at the baby.

And pizza.

It was way better than packing, even though Chris and I should probably be doing that. But I did get to hold a tiny baby and squeeze little toes and rub her head. That’s always entertaining.

MORE PACKING TOMORROW! I’m working on packing the kitchen now.

We’ve gotten a lot of packing done. I say ‘we’ but I haven’t done much since I hurt my back. It’s finally feeling better but still not normal and starts hurting if I move in certain ways or do much of anything. On Saturday, Chris moved my desk, and my nightstand, and a couple of boxes. So all my stuff except my clothes are at his apartment now in boxes. Woo! And most of his packing is done too except for the tv/computery things and the kitchen.

Darwin thinks packing to move is the best thing ever. He keeps climbing up in high places where he’s never been able to go before.

Darwin on the bookshelf.

Darwin on the giant stack of boxes in the computer room.

Darwin way up on the shelf by the ceiling in the closet. This is his new favorite spot in the whole world. He meowed at me today because he wanted me to put him up there. And then when I wouldn’t he tried to climb the wall to get up there. He spends most of his time now wandering from room to room climbing on things.
